In this article, I will share with you a couple of stories that blew my mind.

These are the stories that made me rethink how value gets created, how systems evolve, and what’s actually possible when you ignore the playbook.

Let’s begin.

1. The Janitor Who Became Frito-Lay’s Secret Weapon

Richard Montañez was mopping floors at a Frito-Lay plant in 1976 when the assembly line broke and Cheetos came out without cheese dust. He took them home, added chili powder (inspired by elote street vendors), and called the CEO directly with an idea: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

The product generated billions. But here’s the twist nobody talks about: Montañez didn’t wait for permission to experiment. He just did it. In his kitchen. With equipment he already had.

2025 Mental Model: The Permission-Free Laboratory

You already have access to everything you need to test ideas. Your laptop is a factory. Your apartment is a lab. Your audience is on your phone. The constraint isn’t resources — it’s your belief that you need authorization.
